GDOT hosting virtual open house on road improvements

The GDOT is hosting a virtual Public Information Open House comment period from until June 30 for the US 278 and Old Mill Road improvements in Morgan County, which includes the following projects: US 278 widening, I-20 Frontage Road from US 278 to Old Mill Road, and I-20 Frontage Road from US 278 to Old Mill Road, and I-20/Old Mill Road interchange.

The purpose of the open house is to allow the public to review the proposed concepts and information and submit comments on the three projects.

The US 278 and Old Mill Road improvement projects are designed to provide easy and safe access to the new Stanton Springs area developments.

The improvements include road widening, road construction, traffic signals, and a new interstate interchange which is being designed to enhance safety in Morgan, Newton and Walton counties.

According to the GDOT press release, the projects are intended to improve infrastructure for all users, including the local communities it will serve.

The GDOT says the projects will provide optimal access to freight vehicles and commuters traveling to new jobs at these developments, providing congestion relief, enhanced safety, the ability to accommodate future traffic volumes and direct access to the area from the interstate.

The project will also include a new multiuse path for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The project website can be accessed at https://us278andoldmillroad-gdot.hub.arcgis. com/

The information on the website is the same information typically found at an in-person open house, including the materials and displays.

For individuals unable to attend either of the virtual meetings, Georgia DOT will offer an opportunity for interested parties to drop by to view the same project informational displays and materials at a physical location.

Georgia DOT will announce the physical location, date, and time for the in-person drop-by on the project website by June 10.
