Jill Eckard Suchik

Jill Eckard Suchik, age 76, loving wife and mother passed away on April 21, 2022.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 1:00pm at the Lake Club located at Reynolds on Lake Oconee. Reception to follow.

Born on November 24, 1945, to the late Helen Shorb and Wilbur Wilson Eckard, she was raised in Dalton, Ohio and later moved to Naples, Florida. Jill graduated from Naples High School in 1963 and then moved to Atlanta, GA. In the spring of 1975, she met her husband, Martin Steve Suchik, at Everybody’s Pizza in Decatur, GA. They were married on December 20, 1975.

Homemaking and motherhood became Jill’s main focus upon marrying Marty. Taking on Marty’s daughter, Kendra S Appelbaum, as her own and then having Steven E Suchik and Kelly S Lowe. In addition, she played doubles tennis in the ALTA league and participated in various activities including aerobics, gourmet cooking and becoming a master gardener. Jill’s perennial gardens were featured in national publications including Southern Living and Better Homes & Gardens. She also enjoyed working part-time at Boxwoods flower shop, playing piano, decorating her home and solving puzzles. Jill & Marty loved their lives in Atlanta and became members of Ansley Golf Club in 1996. Jill came from a golfing family where her Mother Helen and Aunt Eva were exceptional golfers and her cousin, Tom Weiskopf, played in the PGA. Regularly you could find Jill & Marty playing golf together on Friday afternoons. When Jill & Marty started to think about retirement, they began to search for the perfect place to live out their years with plenty of golf. Reynolds on Lake Oconee filled that expectation; so, in 2001 they bought a house and moved in the following year. Over the 21 years, Jill became an accomplished golfer and member of the Women’s Golf Association. Jill won the Senior Ladies Club Championship twice and had three hole-in-ones. It brought great pleasure to Jill & Marty to share their home and all the activities the lake offered with their children and five grandchildren; Addison Irene Appelbaum, Jill Taylor Lowe, Madelyn Grace Lowe, James

Crews Lowe and Jackson Holt Lowe. Jill’s children and grandchildren, all of whom she cherished, were the loves of her life. After moving to Reynolds, each year they planned special trips with good friends or family and hosted an annual super bowl party. Jill’s other “favorite things” were summering in Highlands, NC, competing in golf tournaments, country music and frequent dinners out with good friends. Jill’s friends were very important to her. She loved socializing, game nights, and taking trips with her girlfriends. Among her friends she was referred to as “Jilly”.

Besides her husband Marty and their immediate family, Jill leaves behind her brother, Jeffery Claire Eckard, sister-in-law, Carolyn S Folsom, and her adoring goldendoodle Fergie.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of Jill Suchik, to the Greene County Humane Society.
