The trial of Bonnie Elizabeth Brown began Monday in Greene County Superior Court.
She is one of two former Nathanael Greene Academy teachers arrested for having sexual contact with students.
Brown, 25 at the time, was arrested on March 21, 2025, by the GBI and charged with improper sexual contact by an employee, agent, or foster parent.
The second defendant, Sherri Mauldin, 60, was arrested on March 24, 2025, on multiple felony charges. She pleaded guilty in May, according to an 11Alive story. She was sentenced to 25 years, with 12 to be served in prison. In exchange for her plea, a count of aggravated child molestation was dropped.
On June 14, 2024, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations of sexual contact between a student and a former teacher in Siloam, according to a GBI press release.
The investigation confirmed that Brown had engaged in sexual contact with a student while employed as a teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy, a private school that has since closed.
