Del Webb Lake Oconee 100+ Who Care members donated $7,057 to SANE, Inc. in the organization’s second quarter.
SANE, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit agency that serves 10 counties in Georgia, including Greene County.
Their mission is to provide victim forensic medical examinations, evidence collection, forensic interviews, advocacy, court testimony, and education related to the sexual assault of children and adults.
SANE, Inc. performs forensic medical exams for any adult or child who is sexually assaulted or sexually abused. The specially trained nurses and advocates work diligently to ensure that the men, women, and children they serve receive the medical assistance and aftercare they need.
Over the past five years, the need has increased steadily by more than 11% each year.
Their nurses and forensic examiners are medical professionals who have completed specialized training in the evaluation and forensic examination of adult, adolescent, and child victims of sexual assault and abuse. They are on call 24 hours 7 days a week.
In addition to examinations, nurses provide expert witness testimony in criminal proceedings.
