The Morgan County Charter School System (MCCSS) held its annual spring Special Olympics ceremony on April 16 at Morgan County High School.
Students of all ages spent the sunny Thursday morning participating in activities, including on-field relays, bouncy houses, cornhole, and more.
MCCSS additionally invited special education classes from Greene County Schools, for a total of 77 students participating.
During the opening ceremony, participants gathered in Bill Corry Stadium to take part in relays, including a 50-yard dash, a 100-yard dash, a softball throw, and a tennis ball throw. Following the relays, students could play in the designated sensory area, draw with sidewalk chalk, and enjoy the inflatables.
The Thursday morning event was a community effort, with several high school students volunteering alongside classmates. Class volunteering included 50 students from the Health Occupations Students of America Club, led by teachers Leah Ainslie and Abby Bethea; 20 volunteers from the Teaching as a Profession Club, led by Amber Westmoreland; and 20 volunteers from the MCHS ambassador program.
State Farm Agent Chase Stephens provided 200 sack lunches for the event, and several local businesses, including Bo’s Wrecker Service, Lake Oconee Kona Ice, and Peak Steele, stepped up as sponsors.
