Morgan Medical Center recently announced that it received an anonymous $1 million matching challenge grant, helping it officially kick off the Morgan Medical Center Foundation’s (MMCF) “Growing For You” campaign.
According to a recent report, the MMCF sees the recent donation as a community challenge to help raise the funds needed for the $2 million campaign to “accelerate critical improvements to healthcare services across the region.”
The campaign funds will then be directed toward the medical center’s ongoing expansion project. The anticipated project will take place in multiple phases and is expected to enhance several of its current medical resources, improve access to “advanced” medical technology, and address the needs of residents in the surrounding areas.
“Our goal is to ensure that patients do not have to leave the community to receive exceptional care,” said Ralph Castillo, CEO of Morgan Medical Center. “This campaign represents a vital investment in our future and supports our vision of becoming a patient-focused center of excellence, one that will benefit generations to come.”
With the full “Growing For You” campaign donations, the facility will reportedly fund several of its “key initiatives,” including a third operating room suite, diagnostic imaging enhancements, a new laboratory area, expanded emergency department treatment rooms, and new pharmacy and cardiopulmonary areas.
The report noted that imaging enhancements would include improvements to cardiac services by adding new resources and implementing an “In-house MRI suite for additional cardiac needs.”
The expansion project would allow MMC to reduce waiting times, expand the emergency room, add a third operating suite, and shorten the time required for diagnostic testing.
With the campaign, MMC is encouraging contributions from community members, local businesses, and organizations.

Morris provided insight into the recent anonymous donation and says that each decision the hospital board makes “is with the patient and the needs of the community in mind.”

Morris noted that Phase 1 of the MMC expansion project will specifically focus on installing the “in-house MRI suite” and improving cardiac technological resources.
“Recognizing the real need for cardiac services locally, we have made it our priority,” Morris said. “Our surgical services department continues to grow with the addition of new specialists; This has created a need for an additional operating suite, which will enable us to increase our surgical capacity and provide care for patients close to home.”
Overall, Morris says that the MMCF hopes that the recent $1 million grant challenge will encourage community participation, “given the opportunity to double their impact.”
She says that the board members will maintain the remaining $1 million in funds through contributions from the Georgia HEART rural hospital tax credit program, along with “charitable gifts” from the community and businesses.
