Kobi Jefferies is enjoying a successful senior season for the Morgan County boys basketball team.
The veteran wing has played a pivotal role for the Dogs in 2025-26, helping them capture a second consecutive Region 2-2A championship and reach the state title game for the first time since 2019.
“The ride has been very long and bumpy. We’ve had our ups and downs, but it’s been fun, man,” Jefferies said. “Last year we lost in the Sweet 16, and now we’re in the state championship. Playing at this level with my teammates has been amazing.”
Jefferies’ path to Morgan County began at Newton County, where he spent his first two years of high school basketball playing alongside his older brother. But heading into his junior season, he felt it was time for a change.
“I just felt like they really weren’t willing to play me,” he said. “So, honestly, I felt like moving was the best decision for my career.”
That decision led him to Morgan County, where head coach Cody Anderson welcomed him into the program.
“Coach Anderson looked out for me from day one,” Jefferies said. “He’s a great coach, mentor, and role model. If I need anything, I can just ask him. It’s been a great move for me.”
Anderson speaks highly of the senior wing.
“Kobi has been an invaluable piece in our success over the last two seasons,” Anderson said. “In addition to what he does on the court, Kobi is a high-character young man who possesses a great work ethic and an infectious smile. Simply put, Kobi is a winner. I am so grateful to God for the opportunity to coach him and thankful that he and his family have trusted our staff with his development. Kobi is a college basketball player whose best days are ahead of him. I’m a better person and coach because of him.”
Jefferies said he has enjoyed his time at Morgan County and is grateful his family made the move to Madison.
“I was nervous and uncomfortable at first,” he admitted. “I came down here without my older brother, so I really had to adapt. But the people down here are great — they really look out for you.”
On the court, Jefferies has flourished. After earning second-team All-Region honors as a junior, he was named a first-team selection this season.
The 6-foot-6, 185-pound senior is averaging 11.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Jefferies’ leadership and versatility have been key factors in Morgan County’s deep postseason run.
“We all bought into our coaches, put our heads down and kept working,” Jefferies said. “We deserve this, and we’re going to give it our all Saturday. Hopefully, we win and cement our legacy within the program.”
Regardless of the outcome on Saturday, Jefferies hopes to continue his basketball career at the collegiate level.
“High school is almost over, so I’ve got to really lock in on my craft for college,” he said. “We’re focused on Saturday first, but after that it’s time to take the next step.”
