OPAS Winter Ball to feature special guest performer

GREENE COUNTY

The Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS) recently announced that Michael Feinstein will present a one-night-only performance Jan. 31 for the OPAS Winter Ball at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee.

This event, a black-tie gala and the sole, annual OPAS fundraiser, will feature a multicourse dinner with curated wines, open bar, dancing to a big-band orchestra, a live and silent auction, and an intimate performance by Feinstein, widely regarded as the premier interpreter of the Great American Songbook.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, Feinstein has performed on the world’s most prestigious stages, recorded dozens of albums, earned multiple Grammy and Emmy nominations, and collaborated with music icons including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Liza Minnelli, and Rosemary Clooney, among others.

“Having Michael Feinstein perform at our Winter Ball is incredibly special for OPAS and for our entire community,” OPAS Winter Ball Chair Riezl Baker stated.

Founded in 2008, OPAS has helped transform the Lake Oconee area into a vibrant cultural destination, presenting nationally and internationally acclaimed artists across music, theater, and dance. Beyond enriching the quality of life, OPAS generates meaningful economic impact and is instrumental in strengthening Lake Country’s reputation as a thriving arts community.

Central to the OPAS mission is arts education. Over the years, OPAS has introduced thousands of local children to music and performance through educational outreach programs to local schools, the OPAS Youth Chorus, numerous college performing arts scholarships, summer camp scholarships, music lessons, and complimentary tickets to concerts for students.

“Arts education is not an accessory to a strong community; it is essential,” OPAS Artistic Director Doug LaBrecque said. “Through OPAS, children in our community gain access to world-class experiences that expand their horizons, strengthen critical thinking, and inspire them to dream bigger. This event will support our ability to continue this important work while bringing exceptional performances to Lake Country.”

The OPAS Winter Ball brings together community leaders, patrons, and arts supporters for a night of elegance and impact. All proceeds from the evening support the OPAS mission and help fund these essential arts education initiatives.

“This is our only fundraiser of the year, and it plays a vital role in sustaining arts education for local children and ensuring we continue to bring world-class performances to Lake Oconee,” Baker said. “The arts connect residents and visitors alike, strengthen our economy, and enrich the soul of our community.”
