Firefighter killed in tractor trailer fire

Battalion Chief Chris Eddy of Greene County Fire Rescue was killed in an explosion on Sept. 4 after he responded to a tractor-trailer fire on Hwy. 15 near Lickskillet Road.Greene County’s Emergency Management Agency Director Joe Bashore said the accident is still under investigation.

Community mourns loss of firefighter, hero to many

The Lake Country community is reeling from the tragic loss of a great firefighter. Greene County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Chris Eddy was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 4 while putting out a tractor-trailer fire on Hwy. 15 north of Greensboro.

New Madison police chief McIlvaine sworn in

There’s a new police chief in town.John McIlvaine was sworn in as Madison’s new police chief by Mayor Fred Perriman during a city council meeting held Aug. 28.McIlvaine served as a lieutenant with the City of Stockbridge Police Department until he became Madison’s police chief.

Last week, the Greene County Board of Education featured a presentation by new high school principal John Ellenburg on a proposed new pathway for students.According to Ellenburg, the new pathway would consist of five courses among four pathways.

Residents claim pet goats as emotional support animals

Greensboro residents William and Bobbie Pate live on a beautiful swath of land off Twin Rivers Road, which features a waterfront view of Lake Oconee.They also have a menagerie of five dwarf goats with their own housing, complete with a barn, standing platform, and enclosure.

Morgan County school superintendent announces retirement

Morgan County Charter Schools Superintendent Dr. Virgil Cole will retire on May 31, 2025. In a letter to the Board of Education, staff, and community on Aug. 30, Cole announced his plans to retire, rather than seek a contract extension.Cole has been the school system’s superintendent since 2020.
