Man shot in Union Point; suspect in custody

One man is in jail and another is hospitalized in Athens following a shooting in Union Point on Oct. 10. Antonyo Jamone Brown, 20, of Union Point faces charges of aggravated assault and will also be charged with child endangerment because there were children in the area at the time of the shooting.

Graduation rate at its highest point ever in Morgan County

The Morgan County Charter School System heard good news at its monthly meeting Oct. 10. MCCSS Superintendent Dr. Virgil Cole called the meeting to order. The board approved the minutes from its Monday, Sept. 12 meeting, as well as the special called meeting in August.

Man eludes arrest by driving into the woods

A man driving a Land Rover at dangerously high speeds along rural roads in western Morgan County was able to elude Morgan County deputies after he drove across a field and into the woods on Oct. 1.

LOA-BOE deal might be near

There might be a resolution to the long-running Lake Oconee Academy lawsuit against the Greene County Board of Education. The lawsuit, filed by LOA in September 2020, accuses the school district of failing to pass through enough money to fund all of LOA’s students.

The Greene County School System (GCSS) just concluded its series of three public community planning and input sessions for the development of its next strategic plan. The school system is only one of a few statewide that initiates public input for the development of its plan.

Greensboro man arrested after brief 100-mph-plus pursuit

A Greensboro man was arrested by deputies after a brief chase on I-20 that reached speeds of more than 110 mph. Oswaldo Hernandez, 20, faces charges of reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, failure to signal when changing lanes and speeding (101 mph in a 70-mph zone).

Rivian incentives in limbo

The basis for a $700 million local property tax break for a $5 billion Rivian manufacturing plant was shot down by Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda Trammell as she ruled in favor of a petition by opposition group Morgan County Land, Sky & Water Preservation.
