Greensboro police officers located 63 individually packaged marijuana products and arrested two South Carolina men following a traffic stop on March 27.
Jermaine Simmons, 19, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., has been charged with speeding and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Danearis Washington, 20, of Goose Creek, S.C., has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Officer William Yourchak made the initial traffic stop on North Laurel Avenue at approximately 3:25 a.m. when he observed the vehicle driven by Simmons traveling at 50 mph in the 35-mph zone.
According to a press release from the Greensboro Police Department, Yourchak detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Officer Artrell Jordan responded to assist and confirmed the odor.
Simmons and Washington were occupants and asked to exit the vehicle, and Washington told them about the firearm.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a Glock 45 and the 63 individually packaged marijuana products.
Both individuals were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.
“This arrest highlights the proactive efforts of our officers to keep illegal drugs and firearms off our streets,” said Greensboro Police Chief Rodricus Monford. “We remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.”
