Greene County voters will soon have their say on extending the current Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), which funds local capital improvement projects.
The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution last Tuesday calling for the special election on March 18. SPLOST No. 7 ends Dec. 31, 2026; if passed, SPLOST No. 8 would take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
Commissioners also approved a related intergovernmental agreement that, if the vote passes, would allocate Greensboro’s portion of the SPLOST No. 8 funds.
According to the Greene County Elections Office website, early voting will be held from Feb. 24 to March 14 at the office located at 1180 C Weldon Smith Dr., Ste. 109, Greensboro.
Residents must vote at their local polling precincts on Election Day. If a special election runoff is necessary, it will be held on April 15.
Those looking to register to vote must do so by Feb. 17.
