The three incumbent elected officials in the Madison City government have qualified to run for another term.
Mayor Fred Perriman, District 2 Councilor Eric Joyce, and District 5 Councilor Betsy Wagenhauser made it official when the qualifying period began Aug. 18 for the general election scheduled for Nov. 4.
Qualifying ends at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 20.
At press time, no challengers had qualified to oppose the three incumbents.
“I am very pleased to announce that I have qualified to run for re-election to represent District 2,” Joyce said of his decision to continue serving on the council. “I believe I have the experience, judgement, and integrity to continue to make meaningful decisions to protect the unique character and charm of Madison. I would be honored to serve again, and I ask for that opportunity.”
Qualifying is held at the Morgan County Board of Elections and Registration Offices at 237 N. 2nd St. in Madison, which will also serve as the polling place for the City of Madison election.
The qualifying fee to run for Madison mayor is $306, and $216 for city council.
All five incumbents currently serving on the Bostwick City Council have qualified to run for re-election, including Mayor John Bostwick and city councilors Damon Malcom, Angie Howard, Ken Johnson, and Lee Nunn. The election site is the Bostwick Fire Station, located at 1180 Wellington St.
The qualifying fee to run for mayor is $18, and $8 for city council.
At press time, Rutledge’s incumbent mayor, Bruce Altznauer, had not qualified for re-election, but challenger Tim Odum has put his name on the ballot for the post. Incumbent councilors for posts 1 and 3 — Adam Beckstine and Brandie Owens — had also not qualified at LON press time.
The qualifying fee to run for mayor is $90, and $9 for city council.
The Rutledge election will be held at Rutledge Fire Station, located at 214 Fairplay St.
The last day to register and be eligible to vote in these elections is Oct. 6. If a runoff election is needed, it will be held Dec. 2.
