MORGAN COUNTY
Authorities are investigating an attempted bank robbery that occurred Tuesday morning at the Bank of Madison's Eatonton Road branch.
According to Madison Police Department Assistant Chief Colin Campbell, the incident took place around 10:08 a.m. on June 9 when a white male believed to be in his 40s or 50s entered the bank and told employees he had a weapon.
The suspect never displayed a weapon during the encounter. Bank employees activated a panic alarm, prompting the suspect to flee the bank without obtaining any money.
Investigators are using surveillance footage captured inside the bank to identify the suspect. Authorities have also used Flock camera technology to track the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.
As of Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement had tracked the vehicle into the metro Atlanta area, and the investigation remains ongoing.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
