A midnight melee at the Waffle House between Chipotle and Arby’s resulted in the arrest of three women following an incident on Aug. 15.
Candice Stephens, 41; Shameka Arnae Terrell, 34; and Daja Monique Davis, 33, were each charged with disorderly conduct.
According to Madison Police Department reports, Officer Darby Dulaney, along with several other police officers and deputies, was dispatched to the Waffle House shortly after 11:30 p.m. regarding a fight involving a large number of people.
Dulaney reported finding "30 to 40 people" in the parking lot when she arrived as officers began sorting out what had happened.
Upon entering the restaurant, Dulaney found broken glass scattered across the floor and condiments splattered in front of the booths.
An emotionally distraught Waffle House employee told Dulaney that two young women had placed a to-go order but later canceled it and asked for a refund. The employee explained that a refund could not be issued, and a verbal argument erupted.
The two women left the restaurant but later returned with a large group. When the group entered the Waffle House, they began yelling at the employee who had refused the refund. Some members of the group stood on tables and threw items they found there.
The employee told Dulaney that she threw a cup of utensils at the people who were throwing items at her.
Employees eventually locked the doors to prevent the group from coming back inside.
Dulaney said video footage showed an agitated customer exchanging words with the employee before leaving, then returning with seven people who had entered the restaurant with her.
A woman later identified as Stephens climbed onto a table with two other unidentified women while the rest of the crowd paced around the restaurant yelling.
Another woman, later identified as Terrell, attempted to open the door leading to the employees-only section of the restaurant. Davis was also observed climbing onto tables and trying to open the door to the employees-only area.
After Dulaney and other law enforcement officers identified the primary aggressors, they determined those individuals had left the scene. The remaining people on the property were told to leave and not return.
Davis, Terrell and Stephens were later apprehended and charged with disorderly conduct.
