NGC holds ribbon cutting for Greensboro’s new ExtraMile

The Chevron ExtraMile convenience store chain opened a new location in Greensboro earlier this summer and celebrated with an Aug. 1 ribbon-cutting ceremony. Nabeel Group of Companies (NGC), a Georgia-based real estate development company, constructed the commercial project.

The ribbon-cutting event ran from 3-5 p.m., featuring activities such as face painting, giveaways, and free food, along with a special offer of $1.99 gas instead of $2.89.

Nabeel Memon, CEO of NGC, began his work in the gas industry at 18 years old and is now developing gas stations throughout Georgia. He has established 19 Extra-Mile sites within the state as part of his partnership with the company.

“I’ve been in the gas station business since 2004, and I’m 40 now,” Memon said. “I started leasing it, then owning it, and now I’m developing.”

According to Memon, ExtraMile is a development in similar competition to gas chains such as Quick Trip, Circle K, or Race Trac. The gas station offers multiple amenities that have become popular at competitors in recent years, including food options and electric vehicle chargers.

“I think the best way nowadays is to have a uniform in the business where we can follow a program, so whether it’s food, gas, electric chargers, and food is very big in our industry now,” Memon said. “That’s what ExtraMile is compared to the competition.”

The ExtraMile franchise is owned in part by Chevron and Texaco, and originated in California. Memon brought the franchise to Georgia through his partnership with the company.

“So, they’ve been on the West Coast for a while, especially in the L.A. area, but now they’re in the South and they’re spreading,” Memon said. “We started construction on the Greensboro site last year, and just opened two months ago.”

Memon noted that he initially committed to the establishment of the current 19 ExtraMile sites in Georgia, because it was a new franchise to him, and he was “testing it out.” He plans to stick with the development projects and credits the franchise as good to work with.

“I think the best part about going through with ExtraMile is the uniform, the food program, and also the team,” Memon said. “The team is incredible, and very communicative.”

With his decision to develop ExtraMile locations in Georgia, Memon believes it is important to continue implementing sites with quality services. He is currently in the process of creating another ExtraMile location in Greensboro, “not too far” from its 2204 S. Main St. location.

“I grew up in this industry, seeing all these problems that customers have. And so I wanted to provide a better service for customers in our public with better coffee and fresh food,” Memon said. “So that’s what I saw, that there is a market to it, and last year we decided to make a move and go with the ExtraMile franchise.”
