Morgan County finally has legal representation after not having an attorney since January, following the termination of Christian Henry.
The Board of Commissioners hired “governmental boutique” Jarrard & Davis as the county attorney during a special-called meeting on May 13.
During the BOC’s regular meeting on May 6, founding partner Ken Jarrard said he has been practicing law for 30 years. His firm has been in business since 2001, serving a mix of suburban and rural governments with subject matter experts at hand. The firm is the county attorney for Greene, Newton, Banks, Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth, Pickens, Screven, Georgetown-Quitman, and Walker counties. Jarrard & Davis also represents the cities of Milton, Alpharetta, Fayetteville, and Stone Mountain.
It has also done specialty work for Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Rabun, Bartow, McIntosh, Henry, and Butts counties. The firm’s other legal experience includes drafting contract manuals that are used across the state and working with the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia on its litigation panel and hotline.
Jarrard noted that he has represented Morgan County successfully in a court case before.
“Morgan County is a place [where] I’ve litigated before; I’ve defended your interests before in the courtroom,” Jarrard told the commissioners. “We are prepared to provide you all the services we provide all of our other clients to deal with Morgan County, where you are.
“My objective, my goal is not to get in your way … my objective is to get you to ‘Yes’ on your policy initiatives in a legal way.”
