Morgan County BOE recognizes staff; approves tentative FY26 budget

Several Morgan County teachers and staff members were celebrated during the Morgan County Board of Education’s May 12 meeting.

The 2025 Teachers of the Year (TOTY) and Support Persons of the Year (SPOTY) were recognized. TOTY included Megan Ainslie from Morgan County Primary School, Hannah Stone from Morgan County Elementary School, Danielle Bruce from Morgan County Middle School, and Noelle Brownlee from Morgan County High School.

SPOTY were Melba Williams from MCPS, Earleen Foster from MCES, Kelly Whitlock from MCMS, and Sheryl Carr from MCHS.

This school year’s retirees were also honored, including former Superintendent Dr. Virgil Cole, former Chief Financial Officer Nancy Willis, Lynn Kirkpatrick and Laura Sidwell from MCPS, Vicki E’Dalgo and Carol McClure from MCES, Kathleen Bryant, Cheryl Powers, and Dianne Yearwood from MCMS, Debra Harper and Terry Mitchell from transportation, and Patrina Cottrell from school nutrition.

“On behalf of the board, I want to thank all the teachers, the retired teachers, the Teachers of the Year, and the Support Persons of the Year,” Chairman Andrew Ainslie III said. “You’ve helped move the needle in Morgan County education through your career. We’re the lucky ones. We’re lucky that your journey crossed our path.”

The board also approved a tentative FY26 budget of approximately $52.75 million in expenditures, with 66% of the funds allocated to direct instruction. The tentative budget includes about $52.03 million in revenue.

The BOE will hold two public hearings on June 2 at 9:00 a.m. and June 9 at 5:00 p.m. at its central office, located at 1065 East Ave., Madison, to discuss the budget. The board will consider adopting the final FY26 budget at its regular meeting on June 9 at 6 p.m., also held at the central office.
