A man who attacked his own mother has been sentenced to 20 years by Superior Court Judge Brenda Trammell after a Morgan County jury convicted him of two counts of aggravated assault, one count of exploitation and intimidation of an elder person, one count of battery family violence, and one count of simple battery family violence.
The jury convicted Andrew Jalien Richardson, 46, of Madison as a recidivist, due to five prior felony convictions. By being sentenced as a recidivist, Richardson will serve every day of the 15-year sentence in the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections.
This case was investigated by Officer Jonathan Mills of the Madison Police Department and prosecuted by ADA Stephen Morris and Chief Assistant District Attorney Allison Mauldin, Victim Advocate Makenzie Whitley, and Legal Assistant Kelly Calandra.
According to the original arrest report, Officer Mills was dispatched to a Green Meadow Road address on May 5 regarding a physical domestic violence incident in progress.
Dispatchers told Mills they could hear sounds of someone struggling and a woman screaming about being choked. When Mills arrived, he was met by the complainant, and her son, Richardson, who was detained in Mills’s patrol unit for officer safety pending an investigation.
On the way to the vehicle, Richardson told Mills he had been served with “some sort of good behavior bond telling him to stay away from the complainant. He also mentioned something about being evicted and out of the home by May 13, according to the report.
The victim told Mills that Richardson was not supposed to be on the property due to a court order.
The victim also said Richardson was let into the residence by his estranged girlfriend, despite being told not to let him in by the complainant.
The victim said Richardson and his former girlfriend initially left, but then came back in through the back door, which led to her calling 911.
Richardson then became violent and attacked the victim in her bedroom, according to the report.
The victim said Richardson pushed her down between his bed and a nightstand and put a pillow over her face approximately three times, the report said. The victim said the first two times she couldn’t breathe, and on the third time, she was able to bite his right hand.
Mills said he documented a bite wound on Richardson’s right thumb. After the struggle, Richardson got up and ran outside when he heard sirens approaching, Mills said.
Richardson was taken to the Morgan County jail and turned over to the on-duty staff without further incident.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. the following morning, Mills said he was contacted by Magistrate Judge Connie Holt and informed that Richardson did, in fact, violate a family violence good behavior bond/agreement. Additional charges were filed as a result of this new information.
