A Greensboro man faces multiple charges after he initially fled a traffic stop initiated by the Greensboro Police Department and was later tracked down by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 3.
Keith Antwan Robbins, 41, of 2051 Sibley School Road, Greensboro, faces charges of failure to pay child support, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving while license suspended, probation violation, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by convicted felon and possession and use of drug-related objects.
Greensboro police officers were patrolling the area of East Broad Street when they saw Robbins at the Citgo Station and knew he had active warrants for his arrest.
According to the GPD, officers initiated a traffic stop as Robbins turned onto Siloam Road, but Robbins fled at speeds up to 100 mph, passing vehicles in curves and crossing double yellow lines.
Officers lost contact with the Robbins, and warrants were issued for passing in a curve, driving while license suspended, reckless driving and felony fleeing and attempting to elude.
Sgt. Joshua Wilson, Deputy Eli Franks and Lt. Thomas Reeves of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office later went to 2051 Sibley School Road to serve 11 warrants that had been taken out for Robbins' arrest, including the most recent filed by the GPD.
According to reports, Sgt. Wilson arrived at the home and immediately went to the rear of the home to secure the back door. Deputies on the scene said they smelled the overwhelming odor of marijuana as soon as they got out of their vehicles.
Reeves and Franks went to the front of the home to attempt contact. Franks knocked several times with no success, the report said.
“Lt. Reeves and Sgt. Wilson switched places and Wilson went to the front door with Franks,” according to an account by Wilson.
Wilson began knocking loudly and announcing that he was with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, at which point he could hear movement inside the residence. The door was opened by a female who was identified as Patrice Rogers. She was asked if anyone else was inside the home and she said she was the only one there.
Wilson explained to Rogers that deputies were looking for Keith Robbins and she stated that she did not know who that was, adding that someone named Kain also stayed at the residence.
Wilson asked again if anyone else was inside the home, but Rogers would not answer, according to the report.
When Rogers stepped outside and left the door open, Wilson said he could hear movement in the back of the home. Wilson announced his presence loudly and commanded Robbins to come to the front door.
“A male responded and stated that he was coming out but had to put on clothes,” Wilson said.
All indications were that the male was Robbins since deputies knew he lived at the Sibley School Road address, his vehicle was outside of the residence and he responded to “Keith Robbins come to the door.”
Wilson went inside the home to arrest him on the warrants. Robbins was heard moving around a corner and contact was made with him in a hallway.
Robbins was placed into handcuffs, and deputies had to assist him with clothing.
While making the arrest, deputies noticed a large quantity of marijuana, digital scales on the counter in the kitchen and suspected MDMA on the living room TV stand. A cursory search of the home was completed to ensure no one else was inside the home and to ensure deputies were not attacked by an unknown assailant, according to the report.
Once Robbins and Rogers were secured into handcuffs and escorted to the car, a search warrant was obtained for the residence. More Greene County deputies came to the scene to conduct the search.
Robbins and Rogers were taken to the Greene County LEC, where they were turned over to jail staff without incident.
