A Monroe man was arrested on multiple charges after witnesses said they saw him assaulting a female in the area of 222 James Street in Rutledge on April 4.
Jailyn Ramon Austin, 21, has been charged with aggravated assault (strangulation), battery under the family violence statute, false imprisonment, reckless conduct, and cruelty to children in the third degree.
According to reports, Deputy Cole Tilkens was dispatched to Rutledge at around 3:45 p.m. regarding an active domestic disturbance called in by a witness.
When Tilkens arrived, he found several people gathered in the front yard of the residence and learned the suspect had fled the scene in a grey Honda.
Tilkens said the victim of the assault had a laceration on the left side of her mouth and blood on her clothing and body.
According to the report, she was upset and crying.
A 1-year-old child was also present and had blood on her as well, but Tilkens said it appeared the blood was consistent with the victim’s injuries, and no visible injuries were observed to the child.
Witnesses said they heard the victim yelling for help and saw her run out of the residence before Austin grabbed her by the hair and clothing in an apparent effort to drag her back inside. The witnesses said that when Austin noticed them, he got his car and left.
The victim said Austin pushed and slapped her, and when she attempted to contact her father for assistance, Austin took her phone and began choking her in the bathroom.
When the victim told Austin to leave, he refused, and blocked her attempts to leave the house. She also said Austin picked up the 1-year-old during the altercation.
The victim said Austin began choking her in the kitchen, and she experienced difficulty breathing as a result.
While Austin temporarily disengaged to retrieve his shoes, the victim said she fled the residence.
Austin was stopped on Pleasant Valley Road in Monroe and then transported to the Morgan County jail by deputies.
