Madison police officers were dispatched to the Exxon off Monticello Highway on Jan. 19 in reference to a burglary in progress.
Officers noted when they arrived that the alarm had been activated and the glass on the left side of the store was broken. Shortly after the building was cleared, the owner arrived and determined that a case placed on the front counter containing $2,700 worth of lottery tickets was missing.
Security footage showed a Black male dressed in all-black clothing and wearing a black mask entering the parking lot from the area of the I-20 exit ramp at 3:52 a.m.
The suspect broke the window with a silver object and entered the store through the missing window. He is shown picking up the lottery ticket case and leaving through the broken window. He then reentered the store and took a pink Gatorade drink. The suspect can then be seen carrying the lottery ticket case in the parking lot and heading from where he came before leaving the camera's view.
According to the incident report, the video shows an unknown vehicle traveling south on Highway 83. The car turns its lights on and off and appears to turn onto the I-20 east entrance ramp.
The case has been turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division.
