Madison Coin & Bullion currently operates in Morgan County, offering buying and selling services for various items, including coins, gold, silver, and different types of jewelry. The family-owned business is located at 2492 Eatonton Road and has attracted customers both locally and nationwide.
As a small business owner and longtime Morgan County resident, Curtis Guinn started the business in October 2024 after developing an interest in buying coins and gold locally and collecting over time. His wife, Nikki, joined him after several years as a stay-at-home mom, and the two now operate the business as co-owners.
“We have collectible coins for sale, and we buy individual pieces or whole collections. Then the bullion side, we keep a lot of bars and rounds, gold, and silver,” Curtis said. “We buy scrap gold and silver jewelry, and diamonds; The gold and silver bullion is probably the biggest thing we sell.”
Nikki said that the business’ sales often fluctuate based on the market for specific products. She recalled that silver prices rose earlier this year, resulting in a surplus of customers.
“We had a line going out the door, and a standing waiting room in here, and everybody was just wanting to buy, buy, buy,” Nikki said. “I guess they were figuring it’s going to keep going up, but It’s never been like this before.”
Curtis and Nikki said that they have worked with customers from various states, including North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee.
“We’ve met several airline pilots, you know, and lawyers, and so they kind of spread the word that helps get the name out,” Nikki said. “You get to meet people who’ve traveled everywhere, and they have all different kinds of world money.”
According to Curtis, the main part of their business is buying, since people often reach out to sell items they inherited.
“We have a lot more customers that walk in that want to sell, you know, a coin collection they’ve inherited, and they’ll have gold or silver bars or coins in there,” Curtis said. “As far as the selling side of everything, we do have quite a few large customers that’ll come in and might buy a decent amount, so that helps move the inventory up.”
Nikki said that she enjoys working with her husband in the business and appreciates his honesty as a seller.
He gives great prices. He’s very fair, and really does give such great deals,” Nikki said. “We wouldn’t be able to do it without him, and he’s just a great person overall; he tries to give everybody the best prices.”
Overall, Curtis and Nikki said that going forward, they hope to help sellers as much as possible by buying their offered items. They hope to continue operating locally, without needing to turn to refineries and wholesalers as often.
“If we can help people out, that’s great. When they bring in jewelry, they don’t think a little bit of gold will get you much, but we pay better prices. So, we try to help everybody out as much as we can,” Nikki said. “Because we do buy in-store, we’re able to sell it at a better rate as opposed to if we have to order it.”
