According to a report obtained from the Madison Police Department, a customer service manager for Ingles was assaulted and robbed in the Ingles parking lot July 28.
Sgt. Jeremy Hoffman responded to the incident and spoke with the victim Sidney Franklin.
Franklin told Hoffman that he got into his vehicle in the Ingles parking lot and went to the gas station to help the employee there close up the station.
Franklin and the employee returned to the front left entrance to the store in Franklin’s vehicle.
According to Franklin, as he was walking behind the employee toward the entrance, he saw a man approaching.
Franklin said he greeted the man and continued walking, but the man “body checked” him, knocking Franklin to the ground. The man then stole a bank deposit bag containing $2,400 that Franklin was carrying.
As a result of his spill, Franklin sustained visible abrasions and swelling on his right forearm, according to Hoffman’s report.
His assailant was described as a black male, 5’8” with slender build. He was wearing a dark hoodie, a face protection mask, grey sweatpants and gloves.
Hoffman conducted a walking patrol around Ingles and found foot prints in freshly wet grass that led to a chain link fence to the left of the Orchard Grove apartments. A search of the complex by Morgan County deputies yielded no results.
The incident is under investigation.
