Lt. Patrick Paquette learned from dispatch that during the early morning hours before sunrise Morgan County units had lost contact with a white vehicle with no tail lights they had been pursuing eastbound toward Greene County. Paquette moved to the area near Exit 138 eastbound and spotted the white vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed as it passed by. Paquette attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and fled at speeds of over 130 mph, according to the report.
Taliaferro County deputies successfully deployed a tire deflation device near Exit 148, and the left front tire of the vehicle deflated.
According to Paquette’s account, the driver briefly stopped at that point but then fled again.
After the chase resumed, Paquette pursued the damaged vehicle, which was driving on the two left wheels and two right tires. The driver got off at Exit 154 and traveled east toward Warrenton.
According to the report, the driver was moving from lane to lane and sometimes entered the westbound lane of travel.
At this point, Paquette made the decision to use the front of his patrol vehicle to push the fleeing vehicle into a ditch where it came to a stop.
The driver was identified by the revoked Georgia license he had in his possession. He was taken into custody and turned over to jail staff.
The 2021 Kia Forte he was driving had been stolen from Drive Time in Stone Mountain, according to the Dekalb County Police.
