Beyond stalling on the contentious new courthouse location, which met tremendous community opposition, Greene County commissioners last week acted on several zoning and subdivision items and key business items awaiting a vote.
Commissioners approved the funding of an engineering design for a new parking lot at Greene County’s recreation center, located at 2741 Union Point Rd.
The county also approved a recreational gym addition. To seek qualified bidders, a request for proposals for a design-build was issued. Funding from SPLOST VII was approved to complete the project.
The county had earlier approved funding for the engineering design of a Wrightsville Church Road extension. The extension will go from the Richland Connector to Club Drive adjacent to Harbor Club. The county approved funding through TSPLOST for the consideration of a right-of-way acquisition and engineering oversight.
The county approved the contract with the public defender’s office, which provides indigent defense services for the county's citizens. The services require annual approval of a contract between the county and the Circuit Public Defender’s Office of the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit.
The county approved amendments to the Greene County Code of Ordinances regarding alcohol licensing. The county amendments include regulating breweries and brewpubs and supporting existing policy changes.
