The Greene County School System (GCSS) was presented with an award for financial reporting at this month’s Board of Education (BOE) meeting.
The award was a testament to the excellence in financial reporting and controls the school system has in place. It is given by the Georgia Department of Audits (GDAA) to recognize individual organizations that submit quality financial statements and supporting documentation. This is the fifth consecutive year the award was given to the GCSS.
Dean Ware is the GCSS Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for the planning, direction and control of accounting and financial operations.
“We appreciate this award,” he said. “I want to personally commend our financial staff – Assistant CFO Connie Wilkes, Account Payable Clerk Kelly Hanes, Payroll Clerk Allyson Harrison, Receptionist Shannia Robbins, Nutrition Director Shanita Wright, and Nutrition Bookkeeper LaVashius Jones – for all their efforts and diligence in maintaining excellent records and accomplishing the task at hand.”
Created by GDAA, the award is presented to organizations that submit quality financial statements and supporting documentation in a timely manner. The organization's annual financial documentation must be free of any significant deficiencies, comply with all transparency in government and be given an unmodified audit.
GDAA cited the department’s finance reporting, high-quality financial statements and supporting documentation as an award winner. Additionally, key district employees must be readily available to auditors for questions and organizations must be given an unmodified audit opinion.
