FY23 budget approved by Morgan County Commissioners

The Morgan County Board of Commissioners approved the budget for FY2023 during the second meeting in June this past Tuesday.

Chairman Ben Riden opened the meeting by acknowledging the board’s prior meeting minutes before moving into new business.

County manager Adam Mestres introduced the FY23 budget to the group as the first topic of the meeting.

“I won’t read the resolution word for word, but it basically states that we’ve met all the legal advertisement requirements and that we’ve done the presentation of the budget,” Mestres said.

The FY23 budget was presented to the board and members of the community during their June 7th meeting.

Over the past three fiscal years, the county has kept a surplus and hopes to do this again this year after covering expenditures.

Along with multiple consecutive surpluses, District 2 Commissioner Andy Ainslie noted that the county’s millage rate has stayed “about the same” for the past 16 years.

A few of the expenditures included were approved later in the meeting encompassing two new vans for both the extension office and coroner’s office.

Since most of the details were discussed at the prior board meeting, the motion to approve the FY23 budget came shortly after it was brought to the board’s attention.

The budget was approved by all but District 4 Commissioner Philipp van Hanstein, who gave no comment after the decision was opened up to discussion.
