Greene County Sheriff Donnie Harrison will be challenged by a former deputy sergeant who has spent his career thus far in law enforcement in the county.
Josh Wilson, 30, is a married father of three and a lifelong resident of the county. He hopes to begin several key initiatives in support of policing the county and enforcing all laws on the books. He is running as an independent in the upcoming election.
Wilson started his law enforcement career as a patrol officer with the Greene County Police Department under current chief, Rodricus Monford Sr. He then went on to join the sheriff’s office as a shift sergeant. He has completed more than 1,100 hours of law enforcement training, which he believes has equipped him with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead effectively in challenging situations.
“I am committed to leading our community of vibrant and diverse neighborhoods,” Wilson said. “As a resident, I especially understand the unique needs and concerns firsthand.”
Wilson asserts that he has prioritized building strong relationships with the public.
“Throughout my career, I have developed key relationships with the public by fostering trust,” he said. “By bridging the gap between law enforcement and our community members, this collaboration and communication are the cornerstones of effective policing, ensuring every voice in Greene County is heard.”
Wilson stated that, if elected, he would uphold the law with integrity and diligence, ensuring that the rights of all citizens are protected and upheld. His vision for the department includes revamping operations to increase staffing on patrol, reducing inefficiencies, and maintaining fiscal accountability with taxpayer funds.
“I am dedicated to the professional growth and development of our deputies through specialized training,” Wilson said. “This, in turn, aims to reduce a significant turnover rate that has hindered our ability to provide consistent and reliable law enforcement services.”
He stated that he feels the drug trade plagues the county with too few resources for those struggling with addiction and holding those who commit these crimes accountable.
“We cannot hold a blind eye to these issues,” Wilson said. “I am committed to taking decisive action to combat it head-on. It is for this reason that my stance is clear for drug dealers in our community or those who seek to harm the citizens. I am passionate about serving our community to make the county, which sees double-digit growth, a safe place. With support, we can build a brighter future together. It is time for the sheriff’s office to follow suit.”
