Buckhead stores burglarized

A pair of convenience stores in the Buckhead area were burglarized last week.

Morgan County deputies responded to the Sunoco off Seven Islands Road on the morning of Jan. 16 about a burglary. Deputies found the window shattered and a pick axe between window bars.

Deputies followed a trail of loose change to the rear parking lot near the diesel pumps and found the cash register.

Video surveillance footage showed a large male wearing a black mask, a blue jacket, and gloves walking around the store. The suspect moved one of the cameras on the property with a stick and went to the rear parking lot, where he grabbed a pick axe from a truck, used it to break the window, and obtained the cash drawer containing $500 inside the store. He slammed the cash drawer on the ground multiple times before cracking it open to get the cash.

Morgan County deputies also responded to a burglary at the Buckhead Grocery location off Seven Islands Road on Jan. 20.

Video footage showed a suspect dressed in dark clothing approaching the store on foot. Interior cameras then showed the suspect entering through a broken window.

Once inside the store, the suspect jumped over the counter and attempted to grab the safe without success, knocking over items surrounding it in the process. The suspect then looked at the registers, which had been left open with minimal change.

According to the report, the suspect then wrapped both arms around lottery ticket boxes and climbed out the broken window.

He only spent one minute inside the store.
