Saddle up and give back with Kel-Mac

MORGAN COUNTY

Now 49 years old, Kel-Mac is the longest-running saddle club in Georgia. It annually features four fund-raising family and beginner-friendly horse shows, monthly trail rides and camping trips, and equine educational meetings and workshops.

This year’s shows are scheduled for April 12, May 17, Sept. 20, and Oct. 25 at the Morgan County Agricultural Center (2380 Hwy. 441, Madison). New in showing this year are easy online sign-ups for classes and awards for championship points.

Kel-Mac is family, novice, beginning, returning, and “green-horse” friendly. Classes are only $12 each and include hunter, western, gaited, trail obstacles, ranch riding, ranch reining, dressage on the rail, “small fry” for riders age 10 and under, and more.

Consult the show sheet online at kel-mac.com for details.

Kel-Mac sponsors and volunteers have also contributed to or raised more than $170,250 for local charities and equine facilities. The company recently donated $2,740 to its local community.

The Georgia Equine Rescue League, ReDux Equine Rescue, Sweet Olive Rescue, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Empty Stocking Fund, and the equestrian facilities of state and local parks, such as A. H. Stephens, Hard Labor Creek, and Heritage Park, were among the 2024 donation recipients.

Also new, is the “Obstacles are Opportunities Trail Workshop” on March 22 at Sandy Creek Ranch in Athens. Trail Judge Elizabeth Waelde will provide training on successfully navigating obstacles in trail classes. Bring your horse or audit. Sign-up begins March 1.

Coming soon will be a “Horse Showing 101 Workshop,” presented by judge Andre Machado.

Kel-Mac’s next trail ride is on March 29 at Watson Mill Bridge State Park. Join Kel-Mac for a beautiful walk through the woods and meet other trail riders. Contact Sharon Wood at 2525bullet@aol.com for details about day rides or camping trips.
