Rotary recognizes several new SOTM honorees

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties recently recognized its Students of the Month for April: Omarion Butts of Putnam County High School, Audrey Hicks of Gatewood Schools in Eatonton, Domonique Shelton of Greene County High School (GCHS), and Brenlee Brown of Lake Oconee Academy.

The club also honored GCHS students Jailen Ruff as its February Student of the Month and Idalia Aguilar as its March Student of the Month.

Putnam County High School
Omarion Butts, son of Shadona Farley and Aleata Butts, is an outstanding student who consistently demonstrates academic excellence while excelling as a dedicated scholar-athlete. He balances the demands of the classroom and athletics with maturity, discipline, and a strong work ethic.

Beyond school, Omarion is deeply committed to serving others. As an active member of the Man Up program in Eatonton, he has devoted countless hours to volunteering, showing leadership, integrity, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact. He plans to attend Kennesaw State University this fall. Omarion selected Donavon Baker as his teacher of the month.

Gatewood Schools
Audrey Hicks, daughter of Rus and Courtenay Hicks, is an honor roll student and a member of the Headmaster’s List. She serves as secretary of the Anchor Club, is a student ambassador, and is involved in the Farmers & Merchants Bank Junior Board and National Honor Society.

She has participated in varsity competitive cheerleading, sideline cheer, and tennis. Outside of school, she works at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center and volunteers at the Plaza Arts Center. Audrey plans to attend the University of North Georgia before completing her degree at the University of Georgia, then pursue dental hygiene school. She selected Gladys Crowe as her teacher of the month.

Greene County High School (April)
Domonique Shelton was recognized for his achievements despite being unable to attend the meeting. He is a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA) and has competed successfully in several events. He completed the culinary pathway at the College & Career Academy and is involved in Beta Club, the Hispanic Leadership Club, and the UGA Leadership Program.

Domonique has balanced academics with working at Dairy Queen in Greensboro for the past three years. He plans to attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton to pursue studies in agriculture. He selected Joseph Nesbitt as his teacher of the month.

Lake Oconee Academy
Brenlee Brown, daughter of Trent and Jill Brown, serves as vice president of leadership for her school’s DECA chapter and placed third in regional competition. She is also involved in the Farmers & Merchants Bank Junior Board, Georgia Thespian Society, Beta Club, and Literary Society.

A talented writer, Brenlee has earned recognition in the Young Georgia Authors competition and the Region Literary Meet, and her work has been published in The Archetype, LOA’s literary magazine. She also participated in the theater program and earned the lead role in her junior-year spring musical. She was named Homecoming Queen last October.

Brenlee will attend the University of Georgia to study journalism and mass communications, with plans to attend law school and pursue a career as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. She selected Brooke Heberling as her teacher of the month.

Greene County High School (February)
Jailen Ruff, son of Dennis and Shanaye Ruff, participated in varsity football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. He has balanced academics with a demanding athletic schedule and plans to attend Clark Atlanta University to study cybersecurity. He selected Joseph Nesbitt as his teacher of the month.

Greene County High School (March)
Idalia Aguilar, daughter of Jose Aguilar and Teresa Cardona, is a member of the Bee Club and enjoys walking and listening to music. She said her father is her greatest inspiration and emphasized the importance of her faith.

After graduation, Idalia plans to work before completing her studies to become a teacher in her home country. She selected Luisa Guerra as her teacher of the month.
