GWM welcomes Michael Lucker as October author

PUTNAM COUNTY

Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) has announced its October Meet the Author presenter, award-winning writer Michael Lucker, who will discuss his novel, Rule One.

Filled with the same irreverent wit found in Get Shorty by Elmore Leonard and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Lucker’s Rule One is a mind-bending mystery that takes readers on a wild ride through America’s back alleys.

His ex has dumped Dent McCreary, he misses his daughter, and he lives in a roach-infested apartment, using Jack Daniel’s and Pepto-Bismol to get by. It is no way for one of the country’s leading FBI profilers to live.

When a renowned doctor is found dead in a dryer in Los Angeles, Dent and his rookie partner are brought in to investigate. They must navigate the nation’s health care system to stop a madman from killing doctors across the country.

Lucker is an award-winning author, screenwriter, and educator with 15 years of experience writing for major studios and lecturing at major universities. After graduating from Boston University’s College of Communication, he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked in production for ABC, NBC, CBS and HBO before becoming an assistant to Steven Spielberg on the feature films Always, Arachnophobia, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Jurassic Park.

Lucker later worked in creative affairs at Hollywood Pictures on films including Crimson Tide, Terminal Velocity, Straight Talk and Taking Care of Business before embarking on a career as a screenwriter for Paramount, Disney, DreamWorks, Fox and Universal. His credits include Vampire in Brooklyn, Home on the Range, Mulan II, Lilo & Stitch II, The Emperor’s New Groove II and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

A renowned screenwriting instructor, Lucker also serves as a senior lecturer at the University of North Georgia, a mentor in Reinhardt University’s Creative Writing MFA program, and founder of Screenwriter School. In 2017, the Georgia Film Academy hired him to create a high school screenwriting curriculum that has since been taught to more than 15,000 students statewide.

Lucker will present Rule One at Georgia Writers Museum on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $45 each or $40 each for two or more and are available through the Georgia Writers Museum website. All tickets include a chef-prepared themed meal. Lucker will also be available to sign copies of Rule One, which are available for purchase at GWM, following his presentation.
