PUTNAM COUNTY
Love the classic sounds of Frankie Valli, The Drifters, and The Del Vikings? Ever wonder what Maroon 5 would sound like if they had lived in the Doo Wop era?
The Plaza Arts Center is bringing you a little slice of both on Jan. 28, when The Doo Wop Project will deliver a night of smooth dance moves, iconic vocals, and a trip through music history.
The Doo Wop Project traces the inception of group singing developed by inner-city African Americans singing tight harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. Their vocals guide the audience through the journey from foundational tunes by groups like the Crests, Belmonts, and Flamingos, through their influence on the sound of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Seasons, and all the way to more modern musicians like Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5.
Featuring stars of Broadway’s smash hits Jersey Boys and Motown: The Musical, The Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate, in some cases entirely reimagine, some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history!
Whether it’s rock or pop you’re looking for, the Doo Wop Project brings a little of everything to the stage.
The Doo Wop Project represents the 2023 season opener for The Plaza, which is beginning its 15th entertainment season.
“Last year we had unbelievable success. We sold out four shows more than a month in advance, which is something new for us. This makes it even more important to become a member to get presale tickets for everything,” Plaza Marketing Director Taylor Surman suggested.
Surman said she expects authentic performances, powerful vocals, and unforgettable nights to define the 2023 schedule, with acts like The Doo Wop Project proving there will be something for everyone at The Plaza this year.
The Doo Wop Project show will begin at 7 p.m. on Jan. 28, with doors open early to enjoy wine, beer, and cocktails for sale. Tickets for The Doo Wop Project are on sale now at plazacenter.org.
