Mentor and Protege at Steffen Thomas Museum

The opening reception of artworks by Jack Stewart was held Saturday at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art in Buckhead.

A selection of Jack’s paintings, on loan from the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, are shown among Thomas’ work, and this exhibit is sponsored in part by Brian and Pam Quinn, Bill Stewart, South Arts, and the Georgia Council for the Arts.

This exhibit ‘Mentor and Protege’ is a story of a young, inspired artist who sets out to meet Steffen Thomas and thus embarks on an amazing journey of art, interrupted by war in 1944. Jack Stewart was a painter and mosaic artist in New York who earned his master's degree and Ph.D. by studying and documenting graffiti on public transportation during the ’70s and ’80s.

In his long career, Thomas took on only two apprentices, with the most well-known being Stewart.

The exhibition will continue through Jan. 28, 2023. For further information, visit http://www.steffenthomas.org.

Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m., and it is located at 4200 Bethany Road in Buckhead.
