Kel-Mac Saddle Club returns with annual horse shows

The Kel-Mac Saddle Club will hold its 46th annual horse shows this fall (Sept. 17, Oct. 8), at the Morgan County Agricultural Center (2380 Athens Hwy., Madison).

Established in 1976, Kel-Mac is the oldest saddle club in Georgia.

Both shows will feature traditional Hunter, Equitation, Western Pleasure, Gaited, Trail Obstacles, and Halter/Horsemanship classes, plus a special costume contest in the October event. General admission to both shows is free, with concession food and drink available.

New classes of Ranch Reining and Ranch Riding also have been added this year, made popular by Western riders who prefer more casual dress and tack and employ riding patterns that place an emphasis on how it all comes together on a working ranch.

Redesigned jumps and a new course design for the Hunter classes also is new this year, with a revised Show Sheet describing the changes available through visiting Kel-mac.com or at most local equestrian feed stores.

Since its inception, the Kel-Mac Saddle Club has donated more than $158,000 to its local community, with past recipients including the Sheriff’s Empty Stocking Fund, Georgia Equine Rescue League, Calvin Center Horses and Warriors program, Barbara Cumming Memorial Scholarship, and equestrian facilities at state and county facilities, including A. H. Stephens, Hard Labor Creek, Don Carter, Watson Mill Bridge and Heritage Parks.
