Kel-Mac Saddle Club makes donations, plans events

MORGAN COUNTY

Kel-Mac Saddle Club, one of the longest-running saddle clubs in the state of Georgia, recently donated $4,000 back to its immediate community. Over the past 48 years, Kel-Mac has raised and contributed more than $167,500 to local charitable causes.

The most recent recipients are the Georgia Equine Rescue League, ReDux Equine Rescue, Sweet Olive Rescue, the Barbara Cumming Scholarship Fund, and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Empty Stocking Fund, plus the equestrian facilities of Heritage Park in Watkinsville, and at A. H. Stephens and Hard Labor Creek State Parks.

All contributions were raised by four volunteer-run horse shows and from generous sponsors.

This year’s Kel-Mac Saddle Club shows are scheduled for April 13, May 18, Sept. 7, and Oct.

5 at the Morgan County Agricultural Center (2380 Athens Hwy. 441, Madison). The shows are open to equestrians of all ages and experience levels.

Classes include hunter, western, gaited, trail obstacles, ranch riding, ranch reining, dressage on the rail, halter/showmanship, “small fry” and much more. New for this year will be pattern changes on the jumping course, re-themed jumps, and online registration and payment. The show sheet will be available online soon at kel-mac.com.

General admission is free and concession food and drinks will be available.

Kel-Mac Saddle Club also will be holding a Meet & Greet trail ride event on April 27 at 10 a.m. on the easy and beautiful trails at Heritage Park (2543 Athens Hwy. 441, Watkinsville). After the ride, lunch will be provided by the club.
