GWM’s Haunted Eatonton tours return

PUTNAM COUNTY

Several people were recently asked about their spookiest experience ever and several mentioned the movie, The Exorcist, while others recalled a particularly bad nightmare – but (maybe) 68% said Haunted Eatonton was the scariest of all!

Haunted Eatonton features annual ghost tours presented by Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) in partnership with The Arts Barn and Essential Theatre as the spookiest way to celebrate the Halloween season.

This year, there are brand-new sites with super-spooky stories, plus new stories for the always-favorite Panola Hall (featuring Eatonton’s most famous ghost, Sylvia), the Union Church Cemetery, the Old School History Museum, and the Bronson House. BTW, did you know the Bronson House was once a very popular tavern?

The 90-minute walking tours through downtown Eatonton will be held nightly Oct. 22-24 and 28-29. The first tour each day will depart GWM at 109 S. Jefferson Ave. at 7 p.m., after doors open a half-hour earlier – and just before Eatonton’s otherworldly residents come to life.

Groups of 20 will start a tour every 15 minutes until the last and bravest tour group sets out into the night at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 each or $45 each for two or more. Tickets are already on sale and going fast. A limited number are available and this event sells out every year, so come wander through one of the most architecturally renowned and picturesque historic districts in Middle Georgia, but be ready to be alarmed and scared.

At each spooky stop, members of The Arts Barn will perform brand-new scripts in partnership with Essential Theatre. Each spooky story will be reenacted with 100% accuracy – except for parts of the story that we made up!

Visit Georgia Writers Museum online at georgiawritersmuseum.org to purchase Haunted Eatonton tickets before they disappear like ghosts in the night.
