Greene County 4-H visits 4-H Camp Jekyll

Thirty-five Greene County 4-H campers visited 4-H Camp Jekyll June 12- 16, where they spent the week canoeing, biking, seining (fishing with large nets), and engaging in herpetology, beach ecology, marsh ecology, and herpetology classes.

The students were accompanied by 4-H Youth Development agent Becca Velasquez, Healthier Together educator Hope Smith, and volunteers Brenton Lawrence and Jesse Martinez.

The week was one of adventure for the students while learning the importance of the environment around them. With the support of the Greene County Board of Education, Greene 4-H students made friends with peers from across the state of Georgia while spending a week of a lifetime engaging in activities that exposed them to paths that could lead them to be future scientists, educators, advocates, biologists, and more.

Greene County 4-H extends sincere thanks to STEM Coordinator Dr. Laurie Weaver and GCSS Superintendent Dr. Chris Houston for making the best better and supporting the mission of Greene County 4-H.

Greene County 4-H offers a variety of activities in the summer and throughout the school year. Contact 4-H agent Becca Velasquez by phone at 706-453-2083 or by email at Rebecca.velasquez@uga.edu to learn how to get involved.
