What: Scratchboard II - Art Class

When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: The Artisans Village Art Gallery, 110 W. Marion St., Eatonton

More info: Students will have to take the Introductory Scratchboard class prior to this one. In this class, we will be learning about other tools to use on scratchboard and techniques using those tools and about adding color to scratchboard pieces. Students will complete a scratchboard using color in class with step-by-step and one-on-one instructions. Instructor: Barbara Lewis. What: Meet the Author with Dr. Culpepper (Cully) Clark

More Info: Dr. Clark is the former dean of the UGA Henry Grady School of Journalism and will be presenting on his new book The History of The New South: Sherman, Grady and the Making of Atlanta. Tickets are $10 each.

What: Beginning Jewelry Making

Where: Old School History Museum, 305 N. Madison Ave., Eatonton

More Info: Activities for children as well as adults. The presenter will be Katy Ross of Night Song Native Plant Nursery, Canton, and the topic is: “Medicinal Plants From The Past.” There will be a native plant sale as well as an herb expert, Marsha Herren, who will be on site to answer questions about growing herbs. What: Kayak Fundamentals Training Course

When: 8 a.m.

Where: Oconee Outfitters

More info: New to kayaking or thinking about getting into the sport? Oconee Outfitters has put together a course to teach you basic kayaking principles and practices. They’ll explore topics like transportation, entering/exiting the water, basic paddle strokes, and introduce techniques for rescue, both assisted and solo. The course should take approximately three hours and at the end you’ll have enough knowledge to feel comfortable getting on the water on your own. The price for the course is $75. If you purchase a kayak from Oconee Outfitters within 90 days before taking the class, the price is $50. (If you take the course first, a $25 discount may also be applied to the price of a new kayak for 90 days following the course.) Training will take place on Lake Sinclair. More info: Mark your calendars for Oconee Outfitter’s popular nighttime kayak event! The float will depart the Oconee River Greenway, paddling to the Central State boat ramp. What: Milledgeville Archaeology Day

Where: 95 Depot Circle Drive

When: noon-4 p.m.

More info: Join us for an afternoon of FREE family friendly archaeological activity and education when The Ocmulgee Archaeology Society returns to Milledgeville. Artifact identification, pottery making, and Georgia Indian Lifeways tables will be set up for the public. At 3 p.m., Elizabeth Williamson with Southern Research will speak about “Archaeology at Andalusia.” The Middle Georgia Preservation Alliance is also offering a free tour of Milledgeville’s Memory Hill Cemetery from 6-7 p.m.
