McCurley: Kudos to Putnam High basketball

I rarely write columns, but I felt like I had to this week.I’ve had the pleasure of covering Putnam County High School’s basketball teams for the past three years, and the 2024-25 season was the most fun. This year’s teams were the most enjoyable to cover because each team had a lot of success.

War Eagles try to stay humble after perfect start

Putnam County’s impressive start to the 2024-25 basketball season continued last week with three more wins. The War Eagles swept Hancock Central (85-71; 70-54) and topped Greene County (95-55). They entered this week with an 8-0 record on the year and are ranked No. 2 overall in Class A Division I.

War Eagles soar to successful start

The Putnam County boys’ basketball team is off to a successful 4-0 start to the 2024-25 season.The War Eagles began the regular season on Nov. 12 at Jones County and won 64-49. They’ve since defeated Groves, Monroe (Albany), and the Utopian Academy of the Arts.

War Eagles ‘hungry’ as state playoffs begin

After falling to Westside (Augusta) 81-63 last Friday night in the Region 4-AA championship game, Putnam County boys’ basketball enters the Class AA state playoffs as the No. 2 seed. The War Eagles (21-6) will face No. 3 Toombs County (20-8) in the opening round on Feb. 22, at home.

BASKETBALL: War Eagles flying high at start of season

The Putnam County boys’ basketball team is off to one of the best starts in program history. The sixth-ranked War Eagles are currently 4-0 entering the fourth week of the season. According to MaxPreps.com, the last time Putnam started out 4-0 was the 2005-06 season.

BASKETBALL: Banks signs with Georgia Southern

Eren Banks put pen to paper last week and signed to play at Georgia Southern University. The Putnam County basketball star is now officially an Eagle after signing his letter of intent. “I’m really excited,” Banks told The Eatonton Messenger.
