Community review panel involved in police chief search

The City of Madison has engaged a community review panel in its search for a new chief of police to replace Bill Ashburn, who served in that capacity for more than a decade before retiring in April. Interim Chief Roy Whitehead has been leading the department since Ashburn’s departure.

JDA provides update on Rivian’s Georgia plant

While Rivian has paused construction on its $5 billion plant at the Stanton Springs North site in Morgan and Walton counties, site work remains ongoing.The Joint Development Authority of Jasper, Morgan, Newton & Walton Counties provided an update on the site at its July 23 meeting.

MAD Hospitality sees success since 2020 opening

MAD Hospitality of downtown Madison was established in 2020 by Thomas Preston Real Estate. After four years of business, the company owns seven projects, including five restaurants, a unique event venue, and The New South Motor Inn at 1240 Eatonton Rd.

Madison Square Nutrition is known throughout Morgan County for offering lower-calorie beverages, including specialty drinks, shakes, and smoothies. The small business has been at 111 W. Jefferson St. in downtown Madison since its 2020 opening.

City accepts bid on Hill Park restroom project

After years of delays, Hill Park in Madison may finally get the restrooms city leaders have wanted to install there.The Madison City Council accepted the low bid on the project during a July 8 meeting. E&E Construction submitted a low bid of $263,242.

Heritage Hall important to Madison’s history

Heritage Hall, one of Madison’s oldest preserved historic houses, also serves as headquarters for the Morgan County Historical Society. It has also become a popular tourist attraction, particularly during the Christmas season, with its candlelight tours.

Farmview honors local heroes; farmer’s market underway

Farmview Market of Madison hosted its annual Local Heroes event on June 29. The event offered free meals to current and retired military members, law enforcement, veterans, healthcare professionals, and more, in appreciation of their services.
