Basketball ‘Dogs, Lady Dogs earn All-Region honors

Morgan County’s basketball teams recently announced that six players made the All-Region 4-AAA list in 2024. The ‘Dogs and Lady Dogs had three players each make either the All-Region First or Second teams.

From Sweet to Elite: Lady Dogs shock top-seed Calvary Day

Morgan County’s girls basketball is heading to the Elite Eight after upsetting top-seed Calvary Day on Feb. 23rd.  The Lady Dogs defeated the Lady Cavaliers 46-37, advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time in seven years.

Young, defensive effort leads Lady Dogs to first-round win

Defense and junior Jaden Young helped Morgan County top Dougherty in Tuesday’s first-round playoff tilt. Young scored 18 points for the Lady Dogs, who defeated the Lady Trojans 49-41 to advance to the Sweet 16 round of the Class 3A state playoffs.

Lady ‘Dogs trying to find consistency

Morgan County’s girl’s basketball team has been on a hot streak, winning six out of its last eight games. After Tuesday’s 70-23 win over Hephzibah, the Lady ‘Dogs are 13-10 overall and 5-2 in Region 4-AAA.

Lady Dogs starting to find a rhythm

Morgan County Lady Dogs’ coach Milfred Franklin feels his team is hitting its stride at the right time. Franklin’s squad is 10-9 overall and 3-1 in region competition following Tuesday’s loss to Cross Creek. The No. 7 Lady Razorbacks (12-4, 3-0) survived a scare by defeating Morgan County, 41-38.

Lady Dogs place second at Wimbley Classic

The Morgan County girls’ basketball team (7-8) recently competed in the Oscar’s Wimbley Classic tournament at Lamar County High School and came away with a second-place finish.

Lady ‘Dogs rebound after tough start

After an 0-3 start to the season, Morgan County girls’ basketball finally got into the win column. The Lady ‘Dogs reeled off three straight wins, starting with a 58-35 decision over Winder-Barrow on Nov. 21, before their streak came to an end Saturday at Oconee County.

Lady Dogs learn valuable lessons at Dawn Staley camp

Since hiring head coach Dawn Staley more than a decade ago, the South Carolina women’s basketball team has been among the best programs in the nation. Staley arrived in 2008, and since then, the Gamecocks won national championships in 2017 and 2022.
