The Lake Oconee News had an opportunity to sit down with the Chairman of the Greene County Board of Education Mike Lynch as a follow up to the editorial published last week. Lynch answered a few questions for the voters going to the polls this week in an effort to address the important SPLOST vote and a new school, and the impact it will have for the area, teachers, students and staff and county schools.

Dear editor: In last week’s LON, Mark Engel reported on the Greene County Board of Education (BOE) meeting last week that released the schools’ Georgia Milestone test results. After reporting that the BOE’s mood was “upbeat,” he proceeded to report many reasons why we shouldn’t be—focusing on historical results and results downstream in the middle and high schools.

At its June 16 meeting, the Greene County Board of Education did not act on the latest legal settlement offer from Lake Oconee Academy. Two days earlier, on June 14, the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors approved a proposed resolution it said was based on an agreement made during talks between LOA CEO Otho Tucker and Greene County School Superintendent Chris Houston.
