Parent alleges absence of transparency by LOA board

LOA charter renewal faces 66 hurdles

At a special public meeting with parents Tuesday night, the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors gave the Greene County Board of Education an extension on the deadline for the BOE to decide if LOA should be granted a charter renewal.

BOE responds to document, requests time for due diligence

In a long evening ending in some grandstanding and concerns about delays, the Greene County Board of Education (BOE) reviewed a document citing requests for changes, modifications and clarifications to the Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) charter renewal proposal.

LOA to start Alternative Education Program

Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) is developing an Alternative/ Non-Traditional Education Program (AEP) to handle students who are disruptive in class, miss too many days of school, or are not accumulating enough credits for graduation.

LOA board of governors addresses changes, challenges

Monday night’s meeting of the Lake Oconee Board of Governors was Dr. Otho Tucker’s last as Chief Executive Officer of Greene County’s only charter school. Tucker has been CEO since the school started 16 years ago. He announced last year he would step down at the end of this school year.

LOA board approves charter renewal application

The Board of Governors of Lake Oconee Academy has approved a draft application for the renewal of LOA’s charter with the Greene County and Georgia Boards of Education. LOA’s current charter expires in June 2024.

The Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors held its first meeting Monday night since the lawsuit against the Greene County Board of Education over funding was resolved. The settlement came on Jan. 19, when the BOE approved an offer from LOA, Greene County’s only public charter school.

LOA, BOE end lawsuit, prepare for new charter

The Greene County Board of Education unanimously voted on Jan. 19 to approve a settlement with Lake Oconee Academy that ends the charter school’s 29-month-old lawsuit against the BOE. “We’re really happy,” BOE Chairman Mike Lynch told the Lake Oconee News on Friday. “We got some things.
