Gatewood Middle School wins 4th-straight state shotgun championship

Gatewood’s middle school shotgun shooting team traveled to Forest City Gun Club in Savannah on Oct. 13, to compete in the GIAA Middle School Shotgun Invitational, where it won the state championship for the fourth consecutive year.

New high school coming for Gatewood

Gatewood Schools officially broke ground on Oct. 4 on a new high school building, ideally ready for occupation for the 2024-25 school year.

New training facility dedicated at Gatewood

During halftime at last Friday’s home opener for the 2023 football season, Gatewood Schools in Eatonton held a brief dedication ceremony for its new Walt Harper Training Facility, built behind the control tower on the north side of the football field.

Eatonton golfer to play U.S. Amateur championship

With a seven-under-par finish last month in the Rice Planters Amateur at Snee Farm Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Eatonton’s Max Dupree punched his ticket to play in the U.S. Amateur Aug. 14-20, at Denver’s Cherry Hills Country Club and Colorado Golf Club.

Gators finish strong at state meet

The Gatewood boys and girls track and field teams both placed in the top three at the GIAA Class AA state track meet last week. The boys finished in second place with a score of 83 points, and the girls came in third place with a total of 61 points.

Diamond Gators take Region 4-AA title

The Gatewood Gators officially became Region 2-AA baseball champs last week when Piedmont defeated Westminster Christian to end region play for the season. The Gators went 1-2 last week, losing to non-region opponents Class AAAA Bethlehem Christian Academy and Class AAA Stratford Academy.

Gators wrap up T&F regular season

Last Wednesday, Gatewood’s track & field teams finished off their regular season at home, where they hosted Briarwood, Windsor, Westfield, Brentwood and Twiggs. The Gators’ boys won the meet with a score of 164 while the Gators’ girls team placed third with a score of 117 total points.

Gatewood basketball players net several awards

The Gatewood boys’ and girls’ basketball programs recently celebrated their seasons with a banquet. During the event, several Gators and Lady Gators were honored for their performances on the court.
