Gatewood football player Evan Bennett has made his college decision. The rising senior announced via his personal Twitter Monday that he committed to North Carolina.

In November, Gatewood football’s Evan Bennett received some great news via Twitter. It was a direct message from a football coach at the University of North Carolina inviting the junior running back and his family to visit Chapel Hill and attend a game on campus.

The Gatewood Gators looked good early but just couldn’t keep pace with the No.1-ranked Lancers of Central Fellowship Christian Academy (CFCA) Friday night in Macon.

With 2021 All-State senior running back Justin Jameson “feeling a little under the weather,” Gatewood entered Briarwood’s homecoming game without full use of one of its biggest offensive threats.

The Gatewood Schools football program is hoping to rebound this year after a rough 2021 season in which the Gators went 5-7 after winning three-straight GISA Class AA state titles.

Members of this year’s senior class at Gatewood High School have already been a part of two championship- winning football campaigns. The Gators return nine of these players this season, and they all hope to end their high-school careers on top.
