Gators feast on JHA in season opener

Gators coach encouraged by UGA camp results

Gatewood basketball recently spent a few days attending a camp at the University of Georgia. Last month, Gators head coach Don Keiser, a few staff members, and eight players made the short drive to Athens.

Gators season ends at state quarterfinals

“Just nothing went our way.”That was the simple takeaway of Gatewood head coach Don Keiser after a dominant 2023-24 season ended Saturday afternoon for his region championship-winning team.

Gators gain momentum into playoffs

Following a 78-68 home win over Westminster Christian Academy (WCA) last Tuesday, then scoring an 84-52 win on the road Friday night over Piedmont Academy, the Gatewood boys’ basketball team holds an 18-2 overall record for 2023-24, including 4-0 in region play.

Gators bank two region wins, move to 16-2 overall

The Gatewood Gators opened region play last week with consecutive victories over visiting Piedmont Academy on Tuesday and at Brentwood on Friday night. The results boosted Gatewood to 16-2 overall, putting it first in the GIAA Region 2-AA standings.

Gators defeat Trinity in double overtime

On the night Gatewood sophomore Matt Allen surpassed the 1,000-point mark, it took double overtime for the Gators to get past Trinity Christian with a 75-70 win that boosted them to a 14-2 overall record and ranked first overall in GISA Class AA Region 2 standings.

Gators continue streak with three-in-a-row

Gatewood’s boys basketball team improved its record to 12-1 last week with consecutive-day wins over Thomas Jefferson Academy in Louisville, Windsor Academy in Macon, and at home in Eatonton Saturday night versus Westfield School, also out of Macon.

Gatewood boys on a roll in new year

Three up, three down has been the fate of the Gators’ basketball opponents since New Year’s Day, as the Gatewood boys have convincingly beaten First Presbyterian Day (FPD), Briarwood Academy, and Georgia Military College so far in 2024. FPD visited Eatonton on Jan.

Mixed results for Gators before break

Gatewood suffered its first defeat of the season on the hardwood last Saturday, falling to a 5-1 record after a high-scoring 89-72 road loss to the Trinity Christian Crusaders.

Gators’ basketball visits Athens, attends UGA camp

Several members of the Gatewood boys’ basketball team recently experienced something special. Earlier this month, seven Gators’ varsity hoops players and head coach Don Keiser made the hourlong trip north on U.S. 441 to attend a basketball camp at the University of Georgia in Athens.
