I figured I would try this column thing out on a weekly basis from now on. My goal is to try and relate it back to sports in the Lake Country area, or things happening in the sports world. So, here we go.

Well, we’re in the middle of it right now. Summer. It’s tough on chubby guys like me! Man, I seem to sweat through all I have on before I even make it to the truck in the morning … much less an afternoon on the lake. In any case, here’s a report and some fishing tips for you.

FOOTBALL: Tigers ‘get acclimated’ in preparation for fall camp

Greene County football started its final week of summer practice on Monday. The Tigers were dressed in shells - shorts, shoulder pads, and helmets - as a part of the GHSA’s “acclimation week” before the start of fall camp, which begins next week.

VOLLEYBALL: LOA prepares for season

The Lake Oconee Academy volleyball team is finishing up its offseason in preparation for the 2022 season. LOA head coach Chris Ingle always has high hopes of entering every season and says this one will be no different, even though the Titans find themselves in a new area this year.

CROSS COUNTRY: Morgan County XC ready to run wild

The Morgan County cross country team will begin its season in a couple of weeks. Both the ‘Dogs and Lady ‘Dogs have been training together over the course of the summer in hopes of repeating in October before the state meet in November. Morgan County starts its 2022 season on Saturday, Aug.

Bulldogs ‘will not be hunted’ during upcoming season

ATLANTA — Georgia head coach Kirby Smart took the main stage’s podium on Wednesday at SEC Media Days and started his press conference off with a nearly nine-minute opening statement. He talked about a wide variety of topics before giving one of the more chilling quotes of the four-day-long event.
