FOOTBALL: Tigers drop first region game of the season

After winning two in a row, the Greene County football team met its match last week. The Tigers (5-3, 2-1) lost to the Lincoln County Red Devils 31-21 in the team’s third region game of the season, but it wasn’t because of a lack of effort.

VOLLEYBALL: Lady Titans eliminated in first round of playoffs

Lake Oconee Academy entered the state playoffs as the No. 3 seed from Area 5, but the Lady Titans got a tough first-round draw with No. 2 seed Mt. Pisgah Christian. The Lady Patriots ended their season last week, defeating the Lady Titans in straight sets.

OUTDOORS: A fluke catch

A few weeks ago, my buddy, Kevin Underwood, told me to come on up to Lanier and let’s go fishing. That’s a suggestion that never falls on deaf ears with me. So, the day after the hurricane cleared the Carolinas I was there. We left out mid-morning and fished through ‘til late afternoon.

GOLF: Skinner, Pavoni prevail in Georgia PGA Senior tour

The Georgia PGA Senior Division’s Tour Championship, sponsored by Jennifer Vaughan with Ansley Real Estate Christie’s International, took place Oct. 10-11, at Reynolds Lake in Greensboro. The two-day tournament was played on the Oconee Course and Great Waters.

FOOTBALL: Gators break winless drought

On the strength of four touchdowns by junior running back Evan Bennett, the Gatewood Gators broke a four-game losing streak on Oct. 21, with a 38-28 win over Edmund Burke Academy (EBA) in Waynesboro. The win bumped the Gators up to being a .500 team at 4-4 with just two regular-season games left.

FOOTBALL: Bulldogs play a 'Tate of Two Halves,' survive a late scare against Hephzibah

Morgan County had a case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this past week against Hephzibah. However, as Bulldogs’ second-year head coach Clint Jenkins said, “it was a tale of two halves.” It was, indeed. Morgan County defeated the Rebels 49-33 this past Friday night at Bill Corry Stadium.
